Tips for Dealing With a Delayed or Canceled Flight

7/10/2019 (Permalink)

Dealing with a canceled flight can be frustrating.

If you are heading back to Chuluota,FL, after a trip or vacation, the last thing you want to hear about is a storm coming to that area. You likely want to get home so you can assess any damage to your house and contact a storm damage restoration company if necessary. A canceled flight, however, can destroy those plans.
Thankfully, if the forecast calls for bad weather that could disrupt your flight, there are certain steps you can take to prepare. There are also ways to reduce your stress level and mitigate the damage to your wallet.

Ways To Get Ready in Advance

Check the Forecast

While weather predictions are not 100 percent accurate, make sure to look at the forecast ahead of time to see if a major rain or snow storm is coming. You can then try to avoid traveling during the worst of the storm.

Leave Early

Even if your flight is delayed, head for the airport early, as if the flight is on time. Airlines frequently shorten or even eliminate delays, and you don’t want to end up stranded because you waited too long to leave your home or hotel.

Pack Light

Rebooking a canceled flight is tough enough without having to deal with checked bags. Try to fit everything in your carry-on luggage if possible.
Contact the Airline or a Hotel
If the airline does cancel your flight, don’t bother waiting in the long line alongside other frustrated customers. Instead, call the airline directly. This should help you book your replacement flight more quickly. You should also ask the airline about possible compensation, including flight reimbursements or complimentary meals.
Some airlines may even provide a hotel room if you can't get a new flight until the next day. You can also use apps to find cheap, open rooms near the airport.
Dealing with a canceled flight can be frustrating. Following the above storm tips should hopefully make the experience a bit more bearable.
